Forever Changed; Forever Mom

My heart quadrupled in size the day my daughter was born.  From that moment on, I knew my life would never be the same. I didn’t realize, before I had my first baby, the incredible amount of love my heart was capable of feeling for another human being.

There are times just looking at her sweet face and innocent, big smile makes my heart so  happy and full of love, I often wonder just how much more it can hold before busting!  The feeling of her soft, flawless skin, her tiny hands and feet, her glorious, contagious laugh, her wonderous imagination, her excited squeals, and the heart-bursting joy that comes when she wraps her little arms around my neck for a hug have forever changed me.

Being a mom Makes me humble.

I’m reminded on a daily basis of how thankful I am for the help of my husband, family, and friends. Motherhood helps me realize that every moment is special. Each milestone is precious. Every day is a blessing.

Being a mom has made me stronger.

It takes a whole lot of mental and physical strength to raise a child.  As infants, they are solely dependant on you for everything – diapering, feeding, changing, bathing- all the while you too need the same.  It’s a 24/7 job and many times there is no rest or breaks.

Being a mom reminds me slow down when the world tells me to hurry.

Taking the time to teach her how to count, sing, dance, and read takes (a lot of) patients and it take (a lot of ) patients to keep a good, positive attitude. I have to remind myself to slow down and enjoy these moments.  As I teach my daughter, I am also open to the lessons she can teach me as well.

Being a mom keeps me on guard

Her brain is a little sponge!  Everything I say and do, she repeats.  I have to watch my words, actions, and interactions with everyone.

Being a mom makes me want to be a better person.

I want to live out a selfless, whole, healthy, heart-felt life and be the perfect role model for my daughter.  I try to be the person I would like my daughter to become.   It’s so exciting to get to see the world through my daughter’s eyes all over again.

Being a mom makes me Love and respect my mom a Bajillion x’s more

After my daughters arrival, my mom was there to help me adjust to my new life.  For two weeks she helped cook and clean, but most importantly support me.  When my PPD set in, she was right there by my side every step of the way and is still there to this day for advice, reassurance, and guidance.  Without her I wouldn’t be who I am today.  She is and will always be a powerful influence on me.  She has loved me unconditionally all my life, and for that I will be forever grateful.  There are not enough words I can say to describe just how important my mother is to me.

Of all the identities I have-wife, sonographer, daughter, sister, friend–of all the roles I play from sunrise to sunset, “mom” is a role I carry with me no matter the situation.  My responsibility as a mother is my top consideration with every decision, no matter how big or small.  Mom is a role I cannot and will not ever turn off.  Motherhood is a gift; a wonderful blessing. I love this wild, crazy, trying, tiring, wonderful journey.  God’s beautiful creation (aka my daughter) has forever changed my life and helped shape me into his likeness.
